Welcome to The Goldfish Aquarium!!
If you have landed on this website you are probably looking for information to help you take care of your goldfish, in the hopes that it will lead a long, healthy and fulfilled life.
Perhaps your kid has just brought home a goldfish or is begging you for a pet to call his own.
Perhaps you are looking to get into the hobby and want to find out how to set-up your first tank.
Or perhaps one of your goldfish is acting weird and you don’t know what to do.
First, I would like to congratulate you on looking up how to take care of goldfish.
Unfortunately, you are the exception. It is a sad but true fact that many people buy goldfish on a whim and think that they can simply be kept in small, unfiltered bowl. This is the first and probably the biggest mistake most first-time goldfish owners make. And it often isn’t the fault of the person who bought the goldfish, but the people who sell them.
Whilst some countries have banned small fish bowls, the sad fact is that many shops still sell them. Furthermore, a lot of pet shop employees are badly informed and give very bad advice to inexperienced goldfish keepers. This inevitably leads to poor goldfish care, goldfish living very short lives and some very unhappy fish keepers.
So, whether this is your first experience of keeping goldfish, or whether you’ve made some this common mistake in the past: well done for putting the effort in to get it right this time!
Contrary to common knowledge goldfish aren’t as easy to keep as you might think. They actually have quite complex needs, especially if you want your goldfish to thrive. The internet provides us with a wealth of information, but it is sometimes difficult to separate fact from fiction.
It’s best to do all your research before buying your first goldfish. But some of us, unfortunately, don’t have the luxury of being in that position (I certainly didn’t). Sometimes we become goldfish parents rather unexpectedly. I was lucky and found the right people just in time to keep my goldfish happy and alive. But many people buy a goldfish without knowing how to care for it, end up making a lot of mistakes that eventually costs their pet its life.
I hope that this website will become a one-stop source of information for the new to veteran goldfish owner. I will help you set up your first goldfish aquarium, run you through the most important equipment and help you find your favourite goldfish breed from the huge variety out there. We will talk about goldfish anatomy and what signs of illness to watch out for. If your little friend gets sick, we will hopefully get him or her back on its fins. And we will, of course, have a lot of fun with this hobby along the way, whilst always promoting the right and healthy way to take care of your goldfish.
If this is your first time on the website, leave a comment down below. I would love to know how you came to own goldfish. Was it a surprise, was it planned or are you planning to buy one and currently in the process of gathering information before you do?
